NBS Nelson City Brass is proud to offer tuition to Nelson youth through our Academy programme. Alongside weekly lessons during term time, when students have reached an elementary level of performance they gain additional performance experience through our youth band.

What experience do I need to join?

NAB members generally have little or no experience when they join our tuition programme. Through individual or small group lessons they will receive personal training and learn the fundamentals of reading music and playing an instrument. The only prerequisite is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

Who can join?

All school students are welcome to join our programme. We do not have a minimum age; however we find students over the age of 9 are generally more physically able to play a brass instrument.

When do lessons take place?

General lessons take play on a Tuesday after school, with the youth band rehearsing from 5-6pm at our bandroom on Hathaway Terrace. We have an agreement with some schools to provide lessons on site, but you will still be expected to join the youth band rehearsal.

How much does it cost?

Lessons and membership of the youth band costs only $50 per term plus a membership fee of $100 per year (or $150 per family).

The first 6 months of tuition and instrument hire are absolutely free.
